Retrospec Beta Series Single Speed with Flip Flop Hub (45 cm / X-Small Medellin (All White))

Product Description

Medellin is the second-largest city in Colombia, and was once known as the most violent place in the world. Referenced in both Scarface, Grand Theft Auto, and on the TV series Entourage, the city of Medellin is home to palatial views, historic architecture, museums, and a rich history of 1980’s drug trafficking. Pablo Escobar, otherwise known as the “World’s Greatest Outlaw,” allegedly burned $2 million in cash just to keep his daughter warm while they were on the run from the law. Show the world you’ve got cash to blow by cruising on Medellin. Retrospec was founded in 2009 in downtown Los Angeles to fulfill the need for a fixed-gear urban bicycle with transportation and style in mind. All of our frames are tig-welded and are available in many colors to fit your own unique style. We only use top quality components such as: Double walled super deep V wheels, 3 piece cranks, CST High Performance tires, Kraton rubber grips, riser style handlebars and KMC chains. With distribution on 6 continents and an ever-growing product line up, Retrospec is committed to providing you with a bike that is not only durable, but affordable as well.

4An excellent purchase, but be prepared.
By Flint McDart
After extensive research on Amazon to find the best road bike for my needs, I settled on this one. The customer service seemed excellent; they really seemed to care about their customers and resolving any issues that came up.

When it arrived, the package was in terrible shape, but I had anticipated this after reading other reviews. The bike was in perfect condition and appeared unscathed. Assembly took about 30-45 minutes. I have worked on bikes all my life, and this proved no challenge, but this bike is not completely assembled and does require a more than basic knowledge of assembly and functionality. After assembly, I realized that I was sent the wrong size (57CM instead of 60Cm). This was clearly labeled as such on the box, but I never expected the order to be wrong. In retrospect, (no pun intended) the 57CM works perfectly fine for me with a 1-2" gap between the top part of the frame and my inseam. As a 6'3" guy (32" inseam), I was a bit worried at first. Also, as an update, I realized the fork on my front brake assembly came twisted, requiring replacement or somehow getting it to bend back in place. A defective part. Come on, really? Still, not what I ordered- thus only four stars. And that's being generous.

I took it out for some light commuting the next day, and was very impressed with the feel of the fixed gear system (it comes that way), toe clips, and handlebars and brake configuration.

Pros:
Flip/Flop hub for conversion from fixed to freewheel
Absolutely gorgeous bike with minimal stickers
Perfectly functional

Cons:
Nuts on wheels rusted lightly after a week (oiled).
Not really a con- but a warning- not "truly" (only) fixed as it does have freewheel next to the fixed gear.
The brakes were not configured and felt a bit cheap- they now work just fine after a few small adjustments.

I would definitely recommend this bike, and suggest that if you are new to fixed gear bikes as I was, you should practice and get a feel for it. I'm sure you'll love it either way- it feels like what riding a bike should be. Keep in mind- Fixed Gears can be harder on your knees if ridden incorrectly, hills are much tougher, and there's no coasting- your legs are always moving. Good luck!

4Love My SS
By Bx Mundo
Bought this bike after doing some extensive online research. Had a small issue, due to on the package was handled, but the guys at Retrospec were more than helpful. Once I put it together (fairly easy if you have basic bike knowledge), I took it for a spin around the block. Due to schedule and weather I wasn't able to ride for a couple weeks. However just last week I put it to the test! Spend 7hrs on it riding all throughout Manhattan and The Bronx. Handled great and got many compliments, the bike not me, lol. The components are entry level which I don't mind since it makes the bike less appealing to steal. I will upgrade them as they go, perfectly happy with them for now. All around good bike, def recommend and may even buy another.
